Advice

It has been great posting a blog and i hope that people get a chance to read this and give me their opinions. I realized that i have to bold and daring to get me on the air. I won't do anything real silly but will talk to people in the broadcasting business and listen to their advice.

Trades

I am glad that the Penguins acquire Marion Hossa from Atlanta and Hal Gill from Toronto. Hossa will give them scoring left winger with Sidney Crosby and Gill a solid defenseman. Hossa will be tough to resign after this season and the Penguins gave up Erik Christensen and Colby Armstrong. General Manager Ray Shero made these deals to try to win this season. The real test of this trade is went the playoffs start and anything less than Conference or Stanley Cup final appearance would be a failure.

Inspirations

I have a lot of influences in sportscasting and some of them are women. The reason is that some of them have answered my email and sent me advice. Bonnie Bernstein send me a picture and advice via her Velvet Hammer group, and Trenni Kusnierek has answered my questions plus giving me advice. I have taped some of their game and shows because i would learn how to do interviews, features, and sideline reports.

Focus

It is tough to stay focus on what i have to do because of my work schedule and other duties around the house. I will make a schedule to focus on what i need to do to get the opportunites that i want.

Sports

I have a passion for sports since i was kid since i would never make as a athlete broadcasting would be the way to go. I did some work for WVCS the radio station at CaliforniaUniversity of Pennslyvania. When things got tough for me after college i never wanted to give up on my dream. Now i have people believing in me and with opportunities starting to open up it is a matter of time that i will be on the air.

Guts

I get upset that women in sportcasting don't get a chance to host a show or do play by play of the MLB or the NFL. When will the networks have the guts to let a woman to do play by play and stop using them in fluff materials or stories.

Power

I have a show called Pure Sports and put together a format that describe what the show is about. It talks about all sports and would incorporate interviews and discussions on topics relating to sports. I have attend one career fair and met people in the business. Pure Sports is something i will do in a few years, but for right now i will concentate using my space to get on the air and pure together something great.

Launching

My name is Rob Layton and i am living in Mt Pleasant Pa. My goal is to be a sportscaster and i am hoping that this blog will help me. It is hard at times to get on the air because either the time is not right or people have let me down in the past. Well i have realized that i have to do the work and make the right connection in the business. I am happy that i have lot of people who believe in me. I want to be a multi facet sportscaster and be able to cover all sports and interview athletes. I have a lot of influences both male and female and would love to learn something from anyone of them. I try to watch as many games and shows as i can plus keep statistics to learn how to b e prepare for any discussion or prep work. This is one question i always wanted ask can people cover other things besides sports and not lose their creditblilty. Bob Costas cover sports as well as anyone in the business today, but can interview musicians, actors, politicans, and authors plus can still talk about talk baseball with the best of them. I ask one thing if anyone could help me out please let me know with your advice and suggestions.
